MieMu (Mie Prefectural Museum)

“Huge surprises for terrific elephant.”
MieMu is the place to discover Mie, to connect with our region and its rich history. Listen, watch, feel and touch the surrounding of Mie. The Museum’s great standing skeleton (wholly restored) is Stegodon miensis, the Mie Elephant. Found in Mie, this elephant lived about 4,000,000 years ago. It is the largest-ever land mammal discovered in Japan to date. Don’t forget to grab a souvenir and watch the Japanese Giant Salamander “San-chan”!
